How to Get More Plumbing Leads: 9 Channels Compared on Cost, Speed and Quality

Where UK plumbing leads actually come from in 2026, what each source costs, how quickly it works and which suit emergency work versus bathrooms and boilers.

Plumber working on pipework behind a wall

Most plumbing businesses get their work from a mix of places: some repeat customers, some referrals, a directory listing, a Google profile and perhaps some ads. When work slows down, the instinct is to add another channel. A better first step is to look at the channels you already have and ask which ones bring the jobs you want, at a cost you can live with.

Here are the nine sources of plumbing leads we see most often in the UK, compared on cost, speed and lead quality, so you can decide where the next pound and the next hour should go.

1. Google Search Ads: fastest control over volume

Google Ads is the only channel where you can decide on Monday that you want more boiler repair calls in Leicester and see them by Wednesday. You choose the services, the postcodes and the hours. Published 2026 UK estimates put emergency plumber clicks at £4 to £12 and boiler installation clicks at £8 to £20, with London and big cities often higher.

Best for: emergency work, boiler installations, bathroom installs, filling specific gaps in the diary. Watch out for: paying for job seekers and DIY searches; missed calls. See our guide to what Google Ads cost for plumbers.

2. Local Services Ads: pay per lead, with a badge

Plumbers are a Local Services Ads category. You pay per lead rather than per click, appear above normal ads with a Google Guaranteed badge, and rank on reviews, responsiveness and proximity. Published estimates put LSA leads at roughly £15 to £50, with 40 to 60% becoming booked jobs.

Best for: well-reviewed plumbers who answer quickly. Watch out for: verification time and limited control over which jobs you get.

3. Google Business Profile: the free one most plumbers under-use

Your profile decides whether you appear in the map pack when someone searches "plumber near me". It costs nothing, and the work is simple: the right primary category, the services you offer, accurate service areas, opening hours, photos of real jobs, regular updates and, above all, a steady flow of genuine reviews. BrightLocal's 2025 survey of US consumers found only 4% never read online business reviews.

4. Directories such as Checkatrade

A directory listing borrows trust you have not built yet. Published 2026 estimates put Checkatrade at roughly £50 to £200 a month depending on trade and area, with some packages adding per-lead fees. Leads in busy areas are often shared with other members, so response speed decides who wins. We compare the economics in Google Ads vs Checkatrade.

5. Pay-per-lead sites

Rated People and MyBuilder charge per lead with no or low membership, typically around £3 to £15 per lead, shared with up to three tradespeople. They can fill quiet weeks cheaply but rarely build a lasting customer base, because the customer's relationship is with the platform.

6. Facebook and Instagram ads

Social ads suit planned, visual work such as bathroom refits and boiler upgrades, and offers like servicing. They are weak for emergencies, because nobody scrolls Instagram for a plumber when the ceiling is leaking. Use them for retargeting people who visited your site and for local awareness.

7. Referrals and repeat customers

The cheapest leads you will ever get come from people who already trust you. Make it easy: leave a card or magnet, send a thank-you text with a review link, remind customers about annual boiler services, and thank people who refer. A customer list with service reminders is often worth more than a new ad campaign.

8. Landlords and letting agents

Landlords need gas safety checks every year, quick repairs between tenants and someone reliable for emergencies. Letting agents manage many properties at once. Winning a couple of agents can give steady, predictable work. It takes time, fair rates and fast response, but the volume is valuable in quiet months.

9. SEO and content

Service pages for each job and area, plus useful guides ("how much does a new combi boiler cost in Leicester?"), build organic traffic that keeps working. It is slow: an Ahrefs study published in 2025 found only 1.74% of new pages in its main sample reached the top 10 within a year. Start now so it is working in a year's time.
